BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's golf team is in fourth place with a score of 322 after the first round at the Lehigh Invitational on Saturday at the Saucon Valley Country Club. The Mountain Hawks were led by Ginette Schapira, Crystal Lee and Chelsea Michalek whom all shot a seven-over 79 and are tied in 10th place heading into the final round Sunday.
“We hadn't seen the greens this fast in practice so that may have given us some struggles,” said Lehigh head coach Rob Shutte. “The scores were out there to be had. All nine of our players competed. There was a lot of family and a lot of fans out there supporting us. I don't know if that put additional pressure on them or not but I'll be shocked if we don't play better tomorrow.”
Seton Hall leads the tournament with a score of 305 while Brown is only four strokes back in second place with a score of 309 while Rutgers is third with a score of 320. Fairleigh Dickinson is in fifth with a score of 326, Sienna College is sixth with a score of 329, Lehigh University's second team is in seventh with a score of 344) and Albany is in eighth with a score of 355.
Along with the trio of Schapira, Lee and Michalek, Kelly Moylan and Melanie Dickens rounded out the rest of the Mountain Hawks lineup as both shot an 85.
In Lehigh's second team, which consisted of only four women, Hanna Kim shot an 82, Elizabeth Sander shot an 84, Natalie Lansing shot an 88 and Alyssa Schyed shot a 90.
There is a three-way tie atop the leaderboard as Fairleigh Dickinson's Esther Park, Brown's Stephanie Hsieh and Seton Hall's Hanna Basalone all shot a one-over 73.
The final round will be a shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m.
