Colquhoun named to Academic All-District team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – As the Lehigh softball team finishes up work on final exams in preparation for next weekend’s Patriot League tournament, Mountain Hawks sophomore shortstop Jen Colquhoun was recognized for her work in the classroom as she was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II second team, it was announced on Thursday. The honor is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) whose schools are in the region.
To be eligible for the award, individuals must be at least a sophomore, as well as a starter or key reserve on her team with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.30. CoSIDA’s District II consists of schools in
Colquhoun owns a 3.70 grade point average majoring in Biochemistry. She is a two-time Dean’s List student and was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll following her freshman season. Colquhoun’s other off-field endeavors include serving as a team representative for Lehigh’s award-winning community outreach C.O.A.C.H. program and serving on the board and as the softball team coordinator for the annual Adopt-A-Family event in December. The Oak Park, California native participated in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute SEA (science education alliance) program this year and will be interning this summer for another HHMI program.
On the field, Colquhoun has started 40 of Lehigh’s 48 games at shortstop and is tied for the team lead with five home runs, while ranking third on the Mountain Hawks with 34 runs batted in. Colquhoun ranks in the top six in both categories within the Patriot League and also boasts a .303 batting average as Lehigh’s cleanup hitter. She was a second-team All-Patriot League selection as a freshman and earned one Patriot League Player of the Week award during her sophomore season.
Colquhoun’s academic honor marks the fifth straight season the Lehigh softball program has had at least one Academic All-District selection.
The Mountain Hawks (31-17) will take part in the Patriot League tournament beginning Thursday May 13 at the home field of the highest seed. Army enters a doubleheader with Colgate on Friday in first place and will clinch the top seed and the right to host with a sweep. With at least one Colgate win, Lehigh will earn a piece of its 12th straight regular season title and the Mountain Hawks would host the tournament next weekend at Kaufman Field.
