BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women’s golf team heads to Citrus Springs, Florida on Thursday to begin play in the 2010 Eastern Kentucky El Diablo Intercollegiate. The tournament will be held at El Diablo Golf & Country Club, which is a par 72, 5,902 yard course. Along with Lehigh, other schools competing will be Austin Peay, Barry, Belmont, Eastern Kentucy, IPFW, IUPUI, Murray State, Old Dominion, Southern Illinois, St. John’s, Tennessee Tech, USC Upstate and Western Kentucky.
Lehigh has not competed since mid-October when the Mountain Hawks hosted the 2009 Kelly Gutshall Invitational at Saucon Valley Country Club. The Brown and White finished in a tie for fourth that weekend with freshman Rosie Davies tying Yale’s Harriet Owers-Bradley for first place with a score of 154 (78, 76). Senior Livia Amado shot a 157 (77, 80) and tied for fourth in the individual standings.
Following Lehigh’s fall season Amado and freshman Ginette Schapira traveled to Paraguay to compete in the 64th South American team match play championship. The two ladies put forth impressive performances as they kept their skills sharp in the off season.
There will be a shotgun start on Thursday and Friday morning at 8:15 AM in Florida. In last year’s event Ball State won the team title with a three-round title of 914, 13 shots better than second place James Madison (927) and Florida Atlantic (927). On Thursday the teams will play two 18-hole rounds and on Friday they will take part in one 18-hole round.
