BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League handed out its weekly track and field awards on Tuesday and one Lehigh student-athlete was recognized. Senior Khalil Uqdah was named the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after his strong performance at the Navy Invitational this past weekend.
Uqdah set a new school record with a vault of 16’ 9” breaking his old record of 16’ 6”. That vault earned him first place in the pole vault at the meet.
Uqdah, a 2008 IC4A pole vault champion, upped his IC4A qualification by nine inches with the vault on Saturday. His vault of 16’ 9” currently sits tied for 17th best in the nation.
The Mountain Hawks are coming off a strong showing at the Navy Invitational that saw the men finish in fourth place and the women in sixth. Senior Nick Ray took first in the shot put and sophomore Kyle Forrest won the high jump to round out the first place finishers for Lehigh.
On Monday the Patriot League announced its annual indoor track and field preseason polls with both Lehigh teams projected to finish fifth. Army was selected to finish first on the men’s side and Bucknell was picked on the women’s side.
Both Lehigh teams will be back in action this Friday at the 18th annual John Covert Classic in Rauch Fieldhouse beginning at 5:00 p.m.
