Mountain Hawks travel to Army Friday evening

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh swimming and diving teams resume Patriot League competition on Friday as the Mountain Hawks travel to West Point, N.Y. for a dual meet against the Black Knights of Army. The Mountain Hawks returned from a six-week layoff by splitting a dual meet with Marist Saturday at Jacobs Pool. The Lehigh men moved to 8-0 with a 156-87 win over the Red Foxes, while the women fell to 4-3 with a 141-102 setback.

On the men’s side, Lehigh was led by senior Kevin McGrath and freshman Frank Cuzzola who each won two individual events. Senior Jon Westfield also had a strong performance in winning the 50 free, while freshman Tyler Lareau continued his strong rookie campaign with a win in the 500 free. The Mountain Hawks are 3-0 against league foes with wins against Holy Cross, Colgate and Lafayette.

The Mountain Hawk women will be looking to get back on the winning track against an Army team that placed one spot ahead of them at last year’s Patriot League championships. Lehigh received individual event wins from freshman Emily DiDonato in the 200 breast and senior Erin Tormey in the one meter dive. The Lehigh women are 2-0 against league foes, winning dual meets against Holy Cross and Lafayette.

Army will be making its 2010 dual meet debut Friday evening against the Mountain Hawks. The Black Knights completed a successful winter training trip in Puerto Rico two weeks ago. Army’s men enter Friday’s meet at 5-2 which included five straight wins to start the season. In its last dual action, Army was swept by rival Navy on December 10. Army’s women enter Friday’s meet at 3-5 on the season.

Last season, Lehigh and Army split a dual meet at Jacobs Pool with the Black Knight men winning 174.5-124.5 while the Mountain Hawk women won 181-117.

Friday’s meet gets underway at 5 p.m. from Army’s Crandall Pool.
