“We are pleased to add three quality young men into our program this year,” said Reed. “Each individual has excelled in the classroom and on the basketball court. Corey, Stefan and Conroy are all high character individuals who will add to not only our basketball program, but also our campus community.”
Baltimore is a 6-6 forward with a 7-2 wingspan, who averaged 14 points and 14 rebounds per game last season for Archbishop Stepinac High School. He earned a number of honors, including CHSAA Tournament MVP, All-League, Journal News Westchester/Putnam All-Star First Team and Class-A Third Team All-State. He also led Stepanic to a CHSAA “Class-A” City Championship, its first since 1994. Baltimore also received interest from Saint Peter's, Wagner, Vermont, Saint Francis (Pa.) and the University of New Hampshire.
“Conroy's defensive versatility and rebounding talent will be tremendous assets for our program,” said Reed. “In addition, he has demonstrated the ability to stretch the defense by making perimeter shots. His length, along with this athleticism, will allow him to score in a variety of ways on the court and will also provide a shot blocking presence.”
A 6-4 guard out of Kitchener, Cvrkalj has established himself as one of the top guard prospects in all of Canada. This past year, he averaged 22.6 points per game while leading Bluevale Collegiate Institute to its first ever WCSSAA and CWOSSA titles. He was also named the WCSSAA Senior Boys Basketball MVP.
“Stefan is a complete player,” said Reed. “He has a very good combination of size and skill. He is an excellent shooter with extended range, yet also has ball handling abilities. We feel he will complement other guards on the floor and will only continue to improve on an already complete game due to his tireless work ethic.”
Cvrkalj enjoyed a strong spring playing for the Toronto 5.0 program, while his combination of size, shooting and ball handling earned him a spot on the Canadian Junior National Team before sustaining an injury over the summer. Cvrkalj also received interest from the University of Pennsylvania, Davidson, Bucknell and Lafayette.
A 6-0 point guard, Schaefer will join current sophomore Gabe Knutson as natives of Iowa. Schaefer enjoyed a standout career for Johnston High School, helping lead it to a 17-5 record and No. 7 distinction in the Iowa Class 4A rankings. He was named 4A Second Team All-State after averaging 14.5 points and three assists per game in the state's highest classification. Schaefer also played for Martin Brothers out of Iowa this summer. In addition to Lehigh, he received interest from North Dakota, Eastern Illinois and Bucknell.
“Corey has a tremendous feel for the game of basketball,” said Reed. “He is a heady player with a strong basketball IQ who seems to know how to win. He is also creative with the ball, has vision and can create for himself and his teammates. His shooting ability and his deep range will make him a threat from long distance as well.”
The current Mountain Hawks look ahead to a trip to Monmouth on Friday before hosting defending Ivy League Champion and Sweet 16 participant Cornell on Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. Tickets for all home games are now on sale and may be purchased on Lehighsports.com or by calling the ticket office at (610) 7LU-GAME.
