Lehigh debuts at Princeton

Princeton, NJ – The women’s golf program made its long-awaited debut as Lehigh’s 24th varsity sport this past weekend at the Princeton Invitational. The Mountain Hawks finished 21st out of 25 teams with a team score of 783, good for 207 over par.
The low score for Lehigh belonged to freshman Alexis Foucek. Foucek shot rounds of 91 and 94 for a two-day total of 185. Finishing at 41 over par, the freshman placed 77th.
In 87th place, sophomore co-captain Danielle Kochenour was the second best finisher with rounds of 91 and 98 to finish at +45 with a two-day total of 189.
Freshman Jessica Terlecki was next, out-shooting sophomore teammate Lindsay San Filippo by one stroke. Terlecki managed a pair of 92’s to shoot a 60 over 204. San Filippo matched her the first day, then shot a 103 to give her a 205 and 61 above par. The pair finished 106th and 107th, respectively.
The Mountain Hawks only senior, co-captain Danielle Thibeault, was the final Lehigh golfer to finish with scores of 121 and 103 to place 115th with 224.
The 91’s shot by Foucek and Kochenour on the first day tied for the low round by any Mountain Hawk golfer.
"The Princeton tournament is a good one for the women," coach Kelly Gutshall noted. "It is well organized and they have a good course. There are rolling fairways and the greens allow you to keep your shots below the hole."
Lehigh’s women’s golf program was the Patriot League’s first, debuting in 1996 as a club sport. This is the program’s first season at the varsity level. "This is a new experience for the women, even though they have played before," Gutshall added. "This was the first tournament for them with the stature of an NCAA event. I was pleasantly surprised. We need more practice on our short game, but we’re only going to get better."
The Mountain Hawks will return to action on October 12th and 13th when they travel to New Jersey for the Rutgers Invitational.
