BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women’s golf team will play its final match of the 2009 fall season this weekend in the luxury of their own backyard as the Mountain Hawks host the Lehigh Invitational at Saucon Valley Country Club. Nine teams will compete on the Weyhill Course as Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Boston College, Dartmouth, Siena, Penn and Towson join the Brown and White for the two-day tournament. Action gets underway on Saturday morning and will conclude on Sunday.
Saucon Valley Country Club, founded in 1920, has grown from 18 holes and a clubhouse to become one of the largest private clubs in North America. It encompasses 800 acres and consists of four courses, including the Weyhill Course, Old Course, Grace Course and Short Course. The Weyhill Course, where this weekend’s action will take place, is the most picturesque with marvelous views and dramatic changes in elevation. Construction of the course began in 1966 and the first round was played in August of 1968.
Lehigh was last in action the weekend of October 9-10 as the Mountain Hawks placed fifth at the very competitive Rutgers Invitational. Freshman Rosie Davies and senior Livia Amado shot identical 158s as they tied for 12th place individually. Prior to that the Brown and White tied for second at the ECAC Championship and the Mountain Hawks also competed at the Princeton Invitational and the Bucknell Invitational.
Complete results of the Lehigh Invitational will be available on Lehighsports.com at the conclusion of play each day.
