Lehigh finishes 5th and 7th at PL Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks wrapped up the final day of the 2008 Patriot League Indoor Championships on Sunday at Bucknell. The Lehigh men came in seventh place earning 35 points, and the women earned a fifth place finish with 49 points. Bucknell won the women’s title with 173 points, while Navy claimed the men’s title with 188.50 points.

In the men’s 500 meter dash, Scott Robinson took first, finishing in 1:04.85. His time was the fourth best in school history, and just 0.2 seconds off his personal best which he set earlier this year. Robinson also produced a fifth place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.38 seconds.

On the women’s side, Sarah Serwo earned first in the 800 meter run, crossing the finish line in 2:18.01, almost a full second ahead of Victoria Gilbert of Bucknell. In the 400 meter dash, Latasha Watson picked up a third place finish crossing the line just behind second place finisher Lesa Boyd of Army, as both runners had a time of 58.89

Shannon Alejandro had a fourth place finish in the one mile run. She finished with a time of 5:06.27, earning four points for the Mountain Hawks. Alejandro also had a fifth place finish in the 3,000 meter run, crossing the finish line in 10:16.11.

The women’s distance medley team came away with a fourth place finish, crossing the line in 12:30.80. The women’s 4x400 meter relay also claimed fourth place with a time of 3:58.55.

In the men’s 800 meter run, Kyle Manning picked up a fourth place finish, with a time of 1:54.03, which tied his career best that he set last week.

In the men’s field events, Khalil Uqdah earned second place in the pole vault, with a height of 4.65 meters. Franklin Johnson claimed fifth in the triple jump, with a distance of 14.15 meters.

After the meet, Lehigh had two runners named to the first team All-Patriot League. Robinson earned first team honors in the 500 meter dash, and Serwo earned it for the 800 meter run. Uqdah was named to the second team All-Patriot League, earning honors in the pole vault.

Lehigh returns to the track in two weeks for the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Boston, Mass.
