Lehigh completes first day at PL Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Lehigh opened competition at the 2008 Patriot League Indoor Championships on Friday at Bucknell. The women completed the pentathlon, while the men finished four events in the heptathlon. Catherine Bigelow was the only Lehigh competitor in the pentathlon, and the sophomore finished eighth overall, with 2,853 points. Bigelow’s best finish of the day came in the high jump, where she cleared 1.59 meters, which is the sixth best height in school history.

Kristen Kalinowski of Lafayette won the event, with a score of 3,539 points. The Bucknell and Lafayette women’s teams each received ten points for its finishes in the pentathlon. Holy Cross is a close second with nine points, while Navy sits at fourth with two points.

In the men’s heptathlon, E.J. Schuck was the only competitor for the Mountain Hawks and he is currently in fifth place, through four events, with 2,675 points. Schuck finished fifth in every event except for the long jump, where he took fourth with a distance of 6.44 meters. Brandon Lewis of Army leads the heptathlon with 2,945 points.

Action resumes tomorrow at 8:45 a.m., with the rest of the men’s heptathlon events. Field events start at 11 a.m. with the men’s weight throw, men’s long jump and women’s high jump.
