CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Former Mountain Hawk Chris Bryce ’00 recently qualified for the Olympic Trials in the hammer throw at the Bay State Games, held on the campus of Harvard University.  Bryce recorded a throw of 222’10” (67.91 meters) to win a gold medal in the mens open field as he met the qualifying “B” standard, which was 64.00 meters.  Bryce will have several other opportunities to improve his mark prior to the trials, which will take place in 2008 in Eugene, Oregon.

Bryce held the school record while at Lehigh in both the weight throw and the hammer toss, and was a Patriot League Champion at the 199 Patriot League Indoor Championships in the shot put.  Bryce was also a team captain, IC4A qualifier, All-Patriot League selection and an All-East performer in his time on South Mountain.  Following graduation, Bryce, a native of Annapolis, Maryland, stayed on as an assistant coach for two years on the Mountain Hawks staff.  In February of 2005, Bryce competed in the United States Track and Field Indoor Championships in Boston, where he finished sixth in the weight throw, with a toss of 64’1” (19.55-meters).
