“This is a well deserved honor for a junior who has put his heart into the pool and has also done a great job in the classroom,” said Lehigh head coach Rob Herb. “Dan really does an amazing job as a swimmer, but is also very conscientious of his school work. He defines the kind of student athlete you find at Lehigh and we are very proud of him.”
Johnson earned first team All-Patriot League honors with three top-two finishes at last month’s league championships at Navy. The Wayzata,
In the midst of his run at the Patriot League championships, Johnson was also knee-deep in a busy time of exams within his major, and was successfully able to balance the two during his weekend at the championships. In addition to his 3.53 GPA, Johnson has made appearances on both the Dean’s List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
Johnson becomes the fourth Lehigh men’s swimmer to be named Scholar-Athlete of the Year, joining Jeff Cline (1996), Jason Boire (2000) and Tom Gilbert (2007). To be eligible for the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key contributor in his/her sport.
The Patriot League will announce its swimming and diving Academic Honor Roll at the conclusion of the spring semester.
