Mongan is a member of Lehigh’s field hockey and swimming programs, and served as captain of the field hockey team in 2007. A marketing major, Mongan has been named to the Faculty-Athletics Council Academic Honor Roll (with a minimum grade point average of 3.2) while maintaining over a 3.0 GPA for a number of semesters in succession.
Mongan started all 18 games for the Mountain Hawks field hockey program in 2007, as she helped anchor the Lehigh defense and earned a spot on the All-Patriot League team for the second straight year. The Brown and White tied the school record for the most league victories and qualified for the Patriot League Tournament for the third time in Mongan’s four years at Lehigh. Mongan returned from injury this season on the swimming team and has had several strong showings, including finishing fourth in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events versus league foe Army earlier this month.
A double major in Political Science and Africana Studies, Smiley is a member of Lehigh’s swimming program. He has been a member of the Dean’s List, which requires a minimum grade point average of 3.6, as well as the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and the Faculty-Athletics Council Academic Honor Roll. Smiley was also honored with a Multicultural Class Award as the Sophomore of the Year, which is presented to a second-year student whose leadership both academically and co-curricularly, has impacted student life at Lehigh, as well as serves as a model of achievement for others to follow.
In the pool, Smiley competes in a number of events, including the 200 Free, the 100 Free, and the 50 Free. He finished in the top-25 of the 200 and 100 events during the 2007 Patriot League Championships.
Smiley offered his thoughts on receiving the Momentum Award. "I feel honored in receiving this award and being acknowledged for my efforts to continue to make Lehigh a progressive place of learning and diversity,” he explained. “I will continue putting on programs, lectures, and events because I feel staying heavily involved is rewarding and at the same time helps keep me focused on my academics"
