Johnson tabbed as Male Swimmer of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior Dan Johnson has been named the Patriot League’s Male Swimmer of the Week, it was announced Tuesday. Johnson won three individual events, plus a relay event and helped set a pair of Jacobs Pool records in the Mountain Hawks meet with Bucknell last Saturday. He becomes the first Lehigh swimmer to earn a league award this season.

Johnson’s top performance this past weekend came in the 50 yard freestyle, where his time of 21.26 seconds set a new pool record. The old mark, held by American’s Mark Liscinsky stood for nearly five years. The Minnesota native completed a sweep of the sprint freestyle events, winning the 100 free in 46.86 seconds and the 200 in 1:43.50. Johnson also swam the third leg of Lehigh’s 800 meter relay team, which also set a pool record with its winning time of 7:01.91. Senior Jon Kearney, sophomore Ryan Guttormsen and freshman Andrew DiPietro teamed with Johnson in that event.

This season, Johnson has established himself as one of the league’s top sprinters. He has swept the three sprint events in duals against Bucknell, Army, and Lafayette, while winning two sprint events in Lehigh’s meets with UConn, Colgate and Marist.

The Mountain Hawks have completed their dual season and have begun training for the Patriot League Championships, February 21-23 in Annapolis, Md.
