In preparation for these championships, the Brown and White swam a very challenging regular season schedule.
“For us this season, every meet has been like a Patriot League Championship,” said second year head coach Rob Herb. “The team has been swimming at a high level all season, and it paid off with several big confidence building wins during the year.”
Herb continues, “At this time of year, its about 90% mental and 10% physical. We are well trained and we will be ready to go this weekend. This team’s effort, enthusiasm and intensity are unmatched.”
The Mountain Hawks return one individual champion from last year’s championships, in sophomore Jonathan Kearney, who won the 1650 freestyle a year ago. Herb will look to many of his seniors to set the tone for Lehigh this weekend in
The Lehigh women also have some experienced leadership. Senior Linda Hendrixson won a Patriot League title as a freshman in 2003 and had three third-place finishes last season. Juniors Betsy Balaguer and Julie Mitchell should make a splash for the women, while senior Laura Gray leads Lehigh’s diving contingent.
“Ultimately it just comes down to racing,” said Herb.
Navy captured the men’s team title in 2005, while Bucknell won the women’s team championship.
The 2006 Patriot League Championships get underway Thursday morning from Lejeune Hall in
