“Overall I thought the team did well,” said head coach Rob Herb. “Most of our swimmers swam off events so the placements were not high, but our success rates and best times were strong.”
The Mountain Hawks top performance came from senior Grant Flothmeier who placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke. Flothmeier swam a 58.11 in the finals but put forth an impressive 57.9 time in the prelims. Flothmeier also finished ninth in the 200 breast with a time of 2:10 49.
Other top male finishers for Lehigh include sophomore Jon Kearney, who placed seventh in the 100 fly with a time of 52.56. Tom Gilbert also had several quality swims, as he won the “C” final in the 200 fly and finished 13th overall with a time of 1:57.77.
On the women’s side, junior Betsy Balaguer had several top finishes, as she placed second in the “C” final and 14th overall in the 400 IM, then also finished 11th in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:59.90. Senior Linda Hendrixson and junior Julie Mitchell also had several top 15 finishes apiece for the Mountain Hawks.
Overall, Herb was pleased with what he saw, and believes this weekend’s competition will be beneficial to the team later on in the season.
“This was a great tune-up for what the three day Patriot League Championship weekend may throw at us,” Herb added.
The host Scarlet Knights won the team competition on both the men’s and women’s side.
