- The Lehigh Swimming and Diving program announced its team award winners at its year-end picnic this past weekend on Goodman Campus. The men’s and women’s teams celebrated successful seasons that saw them place in the top five at Patriot Leagues and sweep Lafayette at Jacobs Pool. Seniors Steven Greidanus and Kristyn Sayball each took home the program’s highest honor as they received the Scholar-Athlete awards. Given to the student-athlete who best combines academics and athletics, Greidanus boasts a 3.84 grade point average in Computer Technology, and was named second team All-Patriot League after two top-five finishes in the 100 and 200 breast in 2004. Sayball is on track to graduate with a 3.64 in Biology, and was a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2003. The Coaches Award went to Grant Flothmeier for the men and Betsy Balaguer for the women. The award is given to the individual who made significant contributions to the well-being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement, or special leadership. Flothmeier was a team leader all season and captured first team All-Patriot League honors with a second place finish in the 100 breast and third in the 200. Balaguer, in just her freshman season, was one of the most outstanding performers on the team before a bout with mononucleosis kept her from competing at the Patriot League championships. Junior Ross Green and sophomore Linda Hendrixson were the winners of the teams’ Athlete of the Year Award, given to the team member who makes the most outstanding athletic contribution to the accomplishment of the team. Green was the lone event winner for the men’s team at Patriot Leagues, taking home first place in the 200 IM. Hendrixson, a two-time All-Patriot League selection, placed second in the 200 and 400 IM and third in the 200 breast.
Several Lehigh program awards were handed out for individual accomplishments from the 2003-04 season.
