Newark, Delaware- Lehigh's swimming and diving team took first and second place respectively at the Delaware Invitational Saturday December 1st. The men captured a decisive first place with 1,207.50 points over Delaware (933) and LaSalle (922.50). The women recorded an impressive second place finish with 1,082 points considering they had no divers. Delaware finished first with 1,180 points and LaSalle tallied a mere 778 points for a third place finish. Freestyle seemed to be Lehigh's strongest stroke at the Invitational. The Mountain Hawks had 17 swimmers touch in the top three in every men's and women's freestyle event. Lehigh also took first in both the 800-yard free relay and the 400-yard free relay. The men had a strong showing by several swimmers. Brian Golebiewski touched the wall first in the 1650-yard free, 500-yard free, and the 200-yard back. Bing Padmasnkha also swam well for the Brown and White. He recorded first place finishes in the 50-yard, 100 yard as well as the 200-yard freestyle events. Other strong swimmers for the men were Jake Fletcher, Jason Koch, Stephen Greidanus and Andrew Valku. The women swam very well attempting to overcome the obstacle of not having any divers. Senior Lauren Ayres finished first in the endurance testing 1650-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle, and the 400-yard individual medley. The women also had strong showings by Linsey Kokal, Amanda Warrick, and Laura Gabrynowiz. The Mountain Hawks will return to action Monday January 7th as they travel to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
