The Lehigh Athletics Department has announced that five former student-athletes will be inducted into the Lehigh Athletics Penske Hall of Fame in ceremonies that will take place on Saturday, May 12th. The class of 2001, which will be the ninth class to be inducted includes Craig Anderson ’61, Carla Juliani Falco ’88, Eugene Grace ‘1899, Ed Hamer ’59 and Ron Keenhold ’56. Anderson was a member of the Lehigh baseball team and still holds the school single-game strikeout record of 18. As a junior he won all six of Lehigh’s games. Following his Lehigh career he pitched in the Major Leagues for both the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets. Upon completing his professional baseball career, Anderson served in several different administrative capacities in the Lehigh Athletics Department for over 30 years. Juliani-Falco was a member of the Lehigh field hockey and lacrosse teams. She led the field hockey team to an East Coast Conference championship as a senior. A three-time PAIAW All Star, Juliani-Falco twice earned ECC First Team field hockey honors while earning similar honors in lacrosse three times. She set a Lehigh lacrosse career scoring record with 167 goals and 43 assists. Eugene Grace may be best known for the venerable wrestling venue that bares his name, but as an undergraduate at Lehigh he was most successful as a member of the baseball team. Grace batted over .400 as the team’s starting shortstop and was also named class valedictorian. Ed Hamer was a member of the wrestling team and also served as head golf and assistant wrestling and cross country coach. A national champion in 1959, Hamer is the first and only titlist in 70 NCAA Tournaments to beat two defending champions. A two-time EIWA Champion, he finished with a 33-5 overall record, 22-1 over the final two seasons. Ron Keenhold was a member of the swimming & diving team. He finished first in the East Coast Conference Championships for three straight years in the one and three meter dive. An All-American as a junior and senior he competed at the United States Olympic Trials in 1956. Hall of Fame festivities begin on Saturday, May 12th with a reception in the Penske Hall of Fame, located in Taylor Gym beginning at 4:30 p.m. Dinner and the official induction ceremony will follow at 6:00 p.m. If you would like to attend any part of the ceremony tickets are available for $40 per person or $75 per couple and can be purchased by contacting the Director of the Athletics Partnership, Barbara Turanchik at (610) 758-3132 or via email at bat0@lehigh.edu.
