Mountain Hawks return to the water in Florida

Ft. Lauderdale, FL- Lehigh competed in an unscored meet in Ft. Lauderdale Tuesday, competing against Iowa State and Wittenberg College. In the opening event, the women’s 200 yard medley relay, the teams of Shannon Seckinger, Jen Orellana, Katy Hunchar, and Jackie Jones along with Linsey Kokal, Laura Gabrynowicz, Jen Lindenmuth, and Heather Ford finished fourth and fifth respectively. The fourth place team finished with a time of 1:59.56, while the fifth place team managed a time of 2:00.01. In the 200 yard men’s medley relay Lehigh swept the first four finishing spots. The first place team of Ian Gillen, Grant Flothmeier, Ross Green and Dan Buschman completed the race in a time of 1:41.06. The next closet non-Lehigh combatants were Wittenberg, with a time of 1:52.58. The women’s 100 yard free was next up, and again the Mountain Hawks had an impressive showing. Lehigh swimmers finished fifth, sixth, and seventh. Leading the way was Gabrynowicz, who posted a time of 57.56. Lehigh’s men swept the first four positions in the men’s 100 yard free. Bing Padmassankha posted a time of 51.63. Following Padmassankha in the finishing order was Matt Titko, Sean Herman and Buschmann. Events five and six featured the women’s and men’s 100-yard breast. Lehigh’s women finished fifth, sixth, and seventh, while the men placed second, third, and fourth. On the women’s side Kate Donald notched a time of 1:13.55 and teammate Jason O’Koren tallied a finishing time of 1:04.44 for the men. The Mountain Hawks best finish in the next event, the women’s 100-yard backstroke was fifth. Caitlin Fiedler posted a time of 1:04.45. On the men’s side, Lehigh finished in second, third, and fourth place. Grant Flothmeier again led the way, this time notching a time of 1:02.76. Lehigh’s women and men again managed top five finishes in the ninth and tenth events of the afternoon. In the women’s 100-yard fly Linda Hendrixson finished fifth, while Kyle Gold managed second place finish for the men. Hendrixson and Gold’s times were 1:02.56 and 59.00 respectively. With only four events remaining, two for the women and two for the men, Lehigh’s Dana Berkowitz posted a third place finish in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:17.93. In the men’s race, the Mountain Hawks completed the 200-yard course in the first, second and fourth positions. Joseph Beagen led the way with a time of 2:07.35, while teammate Jason Koch was just seconds behind at 2:09.39. The final event of the afternoon was the women’s and men’s 200-yard free relay. For the women, Lehigh finished first and third. The team of Sobocienski, Hunchar, Gabrynowicz, and Capone posted a time of 1:20.16, more than 20 seconds faster than the second place team from Iowa State. The men also had a fine showing in the 200-yard free relay. Just like the women, the Mountain Hawks picked up a first place finish. Lehigh also added a second and fourth place finish. The winning team was comprised of Jess Dudley, Joseph Beagen, Ross Green, and Jason Koch. Lehigh returns to action on January 17th as the Mountain Hawks face off against the American Eagles. The meet will get underway at 7:00 p.m. at Lehigh’s Jacobs Pool, located within Taylor Gym.
