BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After taking almost a month away from the pool, the Lehigh swimming and diving teams are set to begin the second part of the schedule, which begins on Saturday when the Mountain Hawks travel to Marist. Both Lehigh squads are off to strong starts this season, but the Mountain Hawks have not competed in an official dual meet since the Brown and White swept Saint Peter’s on December 7 in New Jersey.
The month of December was heavy on winter training for the Mountain Hawks, who completed their winter training earlier this week in Florida, where they swam an unscored meet against Wheeling Jesuit.
“Our non-scored meet with Wheeling Jesuit went well,” said Lehigh head coach Rob Herb. “It was a sprint meet where each swimmer competed in the 50 fly, breast, back and free. Our team is showing signs of strength as they have put in a lot of work. Most of our athletes have been averaging 10,000 plus yards per day in the pool.”
Both Lehigh squads started the season strong during the first semester. The Lehigh men are 6-2 overall and have won three straight duals, while the women are also on a three meet winning streak and are at 5-3 overall.
On Saturday, the Mountain Hawks will have their hands full against the Red Foxes, who are the defending MAAC Champions on both the men’s and women’s side. Last season, Lehigh lost two close meets to Marist, with the men falling 128-115 and the women falling 128-104.
Action gets underway at 1 p.m. from McCann Natatorium in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
