BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh hosts its first meet of the 2008-09 season Saturday as the Mountain Hawks welcome the Golden Rams of West Chester to Jacobs Pool. Both teams are off to strong starts on the young season, as the men and women of both Lehigh and West Chester come into Saturday’s meet with 2-0 dual meet records.
The Mountain Hawks opened their season with sweeps of Providence and Holy Cross last weekend in New England. Lehigh dominated the Friars, winning every scored event on both sides, while in the Patriot League opener versus Holy Cross, the Mountain Hawks swept all 11 swimming events on the men’s side, while the women won 11 of 13 total events combining swimming and diving.
Senior Dan Johnson and junior Kevin McGrath led the way for the men with event wins and strong early-season times. On the women’s side Lehigh received multiple distance event wins from sophomore Lauren Kindrick, and strong performances from freshmen Priscilla Barletta and Paola Simon who picked up several wins in their first collegiate meets.
West Chester opened its season with sweeps of Shippensburg and Kutztown to account for its 2-0 starts. The Golden Rams are one of the top teams in Division II as both the men (third) and women (seventh) are coming off of top-ten team finishes at last year’s NCAA Championships.
Saturday’s meet gets underway with the diving events at Jacobs Pool, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Swimming action should get underway at approximately 1 p.m.
