Lehigh reflects on season at annual banquet

Senior Sherri Pickens and junior Dan Johnson earned the program’s highest honor as they were recipients of the Scholar-Athlete award. Given to the student-athlete who in the eyes of his/her teammates exemplifies the ideal of the scholar-athlete, Pickens holds a 3.07 grade point average as a bioengineering major, while Johnson, the 2008 Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men’s swimming and diving, holds a 3.53 GPA in mechanical engineering.
Johnson was one of two multi-award winners on the evening as he added the Athlete of the Year award, is presented to the team member who makes the most outstanding athletic contribution to the accomplishments of the team. The
The Coaches Award, presented to the individuals who made significant contributions to the well being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement, or special leadership went to senior Jon Kearney and sophomore Laura Eull.
Freshman Drew DiPietro was honored as the men’s Most Improved Swimmer. DiPietro placed eleventh in the 200 free at the league championships and swam the lead off leg of Lehigh’s 800 free relay team that broke the Jacobs Pool record in a January dual versus Bucknell.
Senior Clark Cohen earned male Diver of the Year honors for the third year in a row. Cohen earned two top six finishes at the league championships and qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving meet with his performance against Marist. The female Diver of the Year was freshman Erin Tormey, who posted two top 16 diving finishes while being the lone female diver on the squad.
The Freshman of the Year awards went to Billy Dunne and Lauren Kindrick. Dunne was the Mountain Hawks’ top backstroker in his first year, placing ninth in both the 100 and 200, while also swimming the leadoff leg for the 200 and 400 medley relay teams. Kindrick garnered all-league honors as a freshman, placing fourth in the grueling 1650 freestyle, while being one of Lehigh’s most reliable distance swimmers all season long.
