“This fall season was one of the most productive that we’ve ever had,” said head coach Fran Troyan, who is entering his 13th season. “For starters we had terrific weather; we didn’t miss one practice because of weather. That enabled the coaching staff to use a building block approach to teaching, and we saw significant results by the end of the month.”
As customary in the off season, Troyan was able to juggle lineup combinations. The Mountain Hawks return two-time reigning Patriot League Pitcher of the Year Lisa Sweeney in the circle, but Troyan used the fall to get his other arms significant work.
“The fall season gave our other pitchers an opportunity to get some game action, and also gave our team a chance to work on some things defensively as well,” said Troyan. “The challenge that still remains is to figure out who the cast of characters will be, but whoever ends up with significant playing time we know we will be putting a quality team on the field.’
In addition to Sweeney, Lehigh returns the Patriot League Player of the Year in senior center fielder Kate Marvel, as well as a pair of 2007 all-league second team selections in first baseman Taryn Hanley and pitcher Tiffany Curtis.
The Mountain Hawks will open the 2008 season at the UNC-Wilmington tournament in
