Marvel and Sweeney named ECAC All-Stars

The Mountain Hawks’ leadoff hitter and starting centerfielder, Marvel put together a stellar junior season en route to earning first team All-Patriot League honors for the third straight year. Marvel was later named the league’s Player of the Year award and was a first team NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region team performer for the second straight year. The Manasquan, N.J. native was the Patriot League’s leading hitter, with a .415 average. Marvel also led the league in runs scored (37), triples (8) and tied for the league lead with 61 base hits.
Sweeney parlayed her second straight Patriot League Pitcher of the Year Award into her second consecutive first team All-Region nod, and now adds ECAC All-Star to the list of honors. In her sophomore campaign, Sweeney led the Patriot League with 19 victories and a 1.47 earned run average. The Lumberton, N.J. native also lead the league win saves and opponents batting average, while her 155 strikeouts were one off the league lead. Sweeney also threw five shutouts in 2007, including no-hitters versus Harvard and Penn; the third and fourth no-hitters of her career.
Also on Wednesday, the ECAC announced its Player and Pitcher of the Year awards for Division I. Temple first baseman Adrienne Repsher was named Player of the Year, while UMass pitcher Brandice Balschmiter took home Pitcher of the Year honors.
