Lehigh trio earns Academic All-District honors

To be eligible for the award, individuals must be at least a sophomore, as well as a starter or key reserve on her team with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.20. CoSIDA’s District II consists of schools in
Marvel earned Academic All-District honors for the second straight year with a 3.72 grade point average, majoring in Religion Studies. A multiple-time member of both the Dean’s List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, Marvel was also named the Patriot League’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year for softball following the 2006 season.
On the field, Marvel has enjoyed an outstanding junior campaign as the Mountain Hawks leadoff hitter and centerfielder. A three-time first team all-league selection Marvel was recently honored as the Patriot League Player of the Year, as she leads the league with a .404 batting average and also has eight triples, leading the nation in triples per game (0.17).
A tri-captain for a Lehigh team that recently captured its ninth straight Patriot League regular season title, Schenbeck boasts a 3.76 GPA as an accounting major. Like Marvel, Schenbeck makes regular appearances on both the Dean’s List and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, and earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in the spring 2006 semester, in which she also appeared in 44 of Lehigh’s 57 games.
Schenbeck has also enjoyed a career season on the field for the Mountain Hawks. A first team all-league selection, Schenbeck is batting .313 and has played a flawless left field for the Brown and White.
In just two years, Sweeney has been able to dominate, both in the pitcher’s circle and in the classroom, where she carries a 3.81 GPA in the
Sweeney was recently named Patriot League Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season, after leading the Patriot League with an 18-5 record, and ranking second in the league in both earned run average (1.54) and strikeouts (134)
After setting school and league single season records for wins and strikeouts last year, Sweeney has appeared on the Dean’s List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. She is also an active member in Lehigh’s award-winning community outreach C.O.A.C.H. program, and will serve as a co-chair of the program for the 2007-08 academic year.
Lehigh’s three honorees this year mark the second straight year that the Mountain Hawks have had multiple softball student-athletes recognized. Marvel and former captain Ali Linsk ’06 earned first team All-District II honors last year.
The Mountain Hawks (33-16-1, 17-1 Patriot League) will open the Patriot League tournament against Army, Thursday at 2:00 pm at Lehigh’s Kaufman Field.
