Sterrett batted .625 in three games last week, highlighted by a 3-for-3, four RBI performance in Lehigh’s 14-1 drubbing of Colgate on Sunday. In the game, Sterrett plated Lehigh’s first two runs with a bases-loaded double in the first inning, and capped a nine run third inning with a line drive two-run home run to right centerfield. Sterrett also doubled and scored the eventual game-winning run in her only at bat in the Mountain Hawks’ title-clinching 2-1 win in Sunday’s second game against the Raiders.
The Coopersburg native increased her average to a season-best .318 and is currently among the Patriot League leaders in hits (47) and runs scored (29). Sterrett is also batting a robust .491 in league games, and is tied for the league lead with six doubles in league play.
Curtis, a multiple time honorable mention recipient this year, earned her first career award after allowing just one run in 13 innings while winning both of her starts last week. The Newbury Park, California native helped Lehigh earn a split at Villanova, tossing a complete-game four-hit shutout, while striking out two in the Mountain Hawks 2-0 victory. On Sunday, Curtis threw six innings of one-run ball to earn her 12th win in the championship clinching win over the Raiders.
For the season, Curtis is now 12-7 with a 2.85 earned run average. She ranks second in the league in wins and strikeouts, and is third in ERA. Curtis also leads all Patriot League rookies in wins, ERA, strikeouts and opponents batting average.
After earning weekly awards last week, Marvel and Sweeney both received honorable mentions for their contributions this week.
Marvel batted .462 with a pair of doubles and added her second home run of the season, a three-run blast, against Colgate. Batting .With a .403 average, Marvel is the only player in the league batting over .400 overall this season. Even more impressive, is her .519 mark in league games. Marvel recently had a Lehigh season-best 12 game hitting streak that ended Sunday against Colgate.
Sweeney earned her league-leading 18th win of the season Sunday in game one against Colgate, and came out of the bullpen with the tying run at second base to slam the door on the Raiders and earn the championship clinching save in the nightcap. She and Curtis currently rank 2-3 in the league in ERA and 1-2 in victories this season.
With its ninth straight regular season title in tow, Lehigh (33-16-1, 17-1 Patriot League) will host the Patriot League tournament for the sixth straight year at Kaufman Field, May 10-12.
The Mountain Hawks may still have to make up the final two games of their series with Colgate if the games will impact the final league standings. Information pertaining to the make-up games will be released as soon as it becomes available.
