Haney leads five PL honorees for Lehigh

Haney proved to be an offensive force in the cleanup spot for the Brown and White last week, as she earned her second Player of the Week award of the season. In game two of the Bucknell series, Haney hit a two-run home run, her team-leading fourth of the year, and added a double. Haney had hit safely in eight straight games before being held hitless in the finale against the Bison.
For the season, Haney is batting .340 with four home runs and a Patriot League leading 31 RBI. Haney also ranks among the league leaders in walks, slugging percentage and on base percentage, and is just one walk shy of tying Lehigh’s career record for bases on balls.
Joining Haney in receiving league accolades were senior Julie Sterrett, junior Kate Marvel, sophomore Lisa Sweeney and freshman Tiffany Curtis, all of whom received honorable mentions.
Sterrett batted .524 last week and had multiple hits in five of Lehigh’s six games. She currently holds a ten game hitting streak, the longest current streak on the team, and has 19 base hits during league games, which currently leads the league.
Marvel continues to excel setting the table atop the Mountain Hawks’ lineup. Last week Marvel had six hits in 14 at bats, including her league-leading sixth triple of the year. The Manasquan, N.J. native also drew five walks, scored six runs and had a .579 on-base percentage.
Lehigh’s top two pitchers, Sweeney and Curtis combined to go 5-1 for the Mountain Hawks last week. Sweeney won all three of her starts and stuck out 17 batters, including a season-high tying 11 in game one versus Bucknell. Curtis bounced back from a loss at
The inclement weather that has hit the northeast has also forced a schedule change for the Mountain Hawks. Lehigh was scheduled to play a doubleheader against Rider on Wednesday at Kaufman Field, but the Broncs have a league game to make up, so instead the Hawks of Monmouth will visit Kaufman Field for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
