Lehigh hosts rival Lafayette for four this weekend

The Mountain Hawks (15-14-1) will be looking to get back on the winning track, after a 6-0 loss to northeast power Hofstra on Wednesday. Lehigh opened Patriot League play at home, winning three out of four games against Army last weekend. The Mountain Hawks have gotten a strong effort from their senior class, with Lauren Haney and Mendy Martin among the team leaders in batting. Haney leads the team with 17 runs batted in, while Martin is batting .317 and is coming off a two-hit game against Hofstra. Junior centerfielder Kate Marvel is off to a fast start in league play. Marvel was 7-for-14 (.500) against Army last week, and leads the Patriot League in hitting during league games.
In the pitcher’s circle, Lehigh will rely on sophomore Lisa Sweeney (8-4, 1.71 ERA) and freshman Tiffany Curtis (5-6, 4.00) to carry the load.

Like Haney, senior Whitney Schenbeck knows this will be a much different Leopards team than in years past.

The Leopards won three out of four games at Bucknell last weekend. The Leopards are led by junior infielder Kristen Ruckno, the team’s leading hitter with a .338 batting average and 17 runs batted in. Freshman catcher Christina Giambrone has also contributed to the Leopard offense with a .314 average and 11 RBI. ““We have treated them like any other team,” she said. “We have to be more solid on defense. Our hitting has picked up over the last few games but if we want to win we have to be error free defensively.”
The Mountain Hawks and Leopards are scheduled to play doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday from Lehigh’s Kaufman Field. First pitch for game one is set for noon on both days.
