Academic All-District honors for Linsk and Marvel

To be eligible for the award, individuals must be at least a sophomore, as well as a starter or key reserve on her team with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.20. CoSIDA’s District II consists of schools in
A tri-captain, Linsk boasts a 3.85 grade point average majoring in behavioral neuroscience. A multiple-time member of the Dean’s List and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, Linsk has earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in five of her first seven semesters at Lehigh. She has also been won the Lehigh softball Scholar-Athlete award in each of the last three seasons.
On the field, Linsk, a former walk-on to the softball team, has established herself as a valuable outfielder and pinch runner for the Mountain Hawks. Linsk has appeared in 36 games, and has three hits in five at-bats, while scoring 17 runs, good for fifth on the team. For her career, Linsk has appeared in over 100 games, while scoring 46 runs and batting .375.
The Patriot League’s Rookie of the Year in 2005 and a two-time first team All-League selection, Kate Marvel was voted to the Academic All-District team after earning a 3.66 GPA with a major in religion studies. Marvel was also named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll following the 2005 season.
Marvel wrapped up the regular season as the Patriot League’s leader in triples and stolen bases. Her nine three-baggers rank her second in the NCAA statistics in triples per game. Marvel has ripped 51 base hits this season, and ranks third in the league with a .363 batting average.
Linsk and Marvel are the first Mountain Hawks to earn Academic All-District accolades since Shana Treon was honored in 2004.
Academic success is nothing new to the Lehigh softball team. The Mountain Hawks earned a 3.45 GPA as a team in the fall 2005 semester, a mark that topped the Lehigh Athletic department and established a new department record. On the field, the Mountain Hawks have won the last eight Patriot League regular season championships and the last three tournament titles.
