BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh completed the first step in its drive towards a third consecutive NCAA Regional appearance as the Mountain Hawks wrapped up their fall season last weekend. The two-time defending Patriot League champions hosted three softball “play days” and also took part in the prestigious Carol Weil Tournament in
“From a competitive standpoint, our results were very encouraging,” said Troyan, the 2005 Patriot League coach of the year. “There is still a whole lot of work to do, but we used this fall season to try some different things out, get everyone acclimated and figure out as a team what we need to work on as we move on towards the regular season.”
The Mountain Hawks only two losses in fall play came to perennial Atlantic-10 power Fordham in the Carol Weil semifinals, and defending Big East champion Seton Hall.
Troyan reflected on the positives he saw from the Mountain Hawks in the fall.
“I thought the team’s willingness to ‘get after it,’ to compete and work hard was very good,” Troyan said. “If the team continues to work hard things can only get better.”
The fall season also allowed Troyan to experiment with different combinations in the lineup and in the field; and also allowed Lehigh’s talented freshmen class to “get their feet wet” in Division I softball.
Lehigh will open the spring season when the Mountain Hawks make their annual trip to the Rebel Spring Games in
