Bethlehem, PA - With the Mountain Hawks sitting atop the Patriot League standings, Lehigh once again had two players recognized as the league handed out its weekly awards Monday afternoon.
Emily Ling was named Pitcher of the Week and
Taryn Hanley took Rookie of the Week honors, for the week ending April 10th.
Ling was 4-1 last week with an ERA of 0.52 against Patriot League opponents Lafayette and Holy Cross as well as Ivy League foe Princeton, pitching two complete games. In 27 innings Ling allowed only 11 hits and two earned runs and had 31 strikeouts. She currently leads the Patriot League in wins (13), strikeouts (103), shutouts (4), opposing batting average (.160) and innings pitched (20). Ling is now 13-4 on the year and this is her fifth Pitcher of the Week award this season. She is 26 strikeouts away from holding the all-time league record.
Hanley was an offensive force for the Mountain Hawks last week, hitting a .429 with a .642 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage. Hanley had nine RBI and scored six runs. She hit her first career home run, a grand slam, against Lafayette. She drove in the go-ahead run in a 6-4 victory over Lafayette and went 4-for-4 in an 8-3 win over Holy Cross. Hanley now leads the league in runs batted in during Patriot League games with 13. Hanley has a .447 batting average in Patriot League contests and is Lehigh’s second freshman to receive Rookie of the Week honors.
Lehigh is now 26-6 and a perfect 12-0 in Patriot League play. The Mountain Hawks return to the diamond on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Villanova at Patriots Park in Allentown. The first game gets underway at 3:00 and can be seen live on Service Electric 2 Sports. The second game, scheduled to begin at approximately 5:00, can be seen Tuesday night at 10:00 and both games will be broadcast live on the Lehigh website at lehighsports.com with streaming audio provided by Yahoo!
