Bender honored as All-American

Bethlehem, PA – Jenny Bender, Lehigh’s left-handed threat in the pitchers circle and at the plate, was recently honored as a Verizon Academic All-American. The award is the first such distinction for a Lehigh player since Patty Goodwin in 1998, and the third overall. Bender earned third-team honors for her performance this past season. All-America team members are representatives of various All-Region teams and are selected by a panel of CoSIDA members.

As a senior, Bender was an All-Patriot League selection and one of the best all-around players in the region. She was tops on the team in RBI and was second on the team in triples. Bender also posted a 13-4 mark on the mound with 54 strikeouts.

Bender was one of two graduating seniors for coach Fran Troyan’s squad this past season. The Mountain Hawks will return every other player to a lineup that was tops in the Patriot League in hitting, pitching, and fielding.
