Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh split a pair of games with Princeton Tuesday afternoon in its final games before the Patriot League Tournament. The Mountain Hawks fell 4-3 in the first game, but rebounded to win 5-1 in the nightcap. With the split, Lehigh stands at 38-8, while the Tigers go to 24-19-1. In game one, Lehigh’s Patriot League record 12 game winning streak was snapped as the squad fell to the Tigers 4-3. Ironically, Princeton was the last team to defeat the Mountain Hawks nearly a month ago. The Lehigh bats managed only four hits, as Princeton’s Erin Snyder struck out six, and got the aid of three homerun balls from her teammates. Stephanie Digneo, Jenny Bender, Mary Wieder, and Erin Hengemuhle belted hits, with Hengemuhle ripping a double and Wieder lacing a triple. Digneo, Bender, and Wieder tallied an RBI each, while Xochitl Mota, Digneo, and Young scored. Emily Ling took the loss to fall to 17-3 on the season. It’s the first setback for Ling since she fell to Colgate on April 10th. In the nightcap, Lehigh returned to its winning ways, picking up a 5-1 victory. Lehigh belted eight hits, including two from Shana Treon and Jenny Bender. One of Bender’s hits was a homerun, her second of the season, while Digneo, Wieder, and Elizabeth Gripp picked up a double a piece. Bender pitched a complete game to improve to 12-4. The senior scattered seven hits and struck out three Tigers. Seven different Princeton players managed a hit, while Wendy Bingham took the loss to fall to 7-6. Lehigh returns to action on Saturday, at Kaufman Field, in the Patriot League Tournament to face fourth-seeded Army at 11:00 a.m. Other action Saturday morning will see second-seeded Colgate square off against third-seeded Holy Cross. That game will kick off the day’s action at 9:00 a.m. (Scoring, Game 1)
