Digneo ties mark as Lehigh drops Rider

Bethlehem, PA – Stephanie Digneo tied the Patriot League and school record for career hits (247) with a 4-for-6 afternoon as Lehigh took a pair of games from Rider. Lehigh won by scores of 8-0 and 10-2 to improve to 32-7 overall, while the Broncs fall to 15-17.
In game one, Emily Ling tossed a complete game three-hitter en route to her 15th win of the season. Ling struck out half the batters she faced and walked none. Offensively, three Lehigh players managed two hits, including Shana Treon (2-for-4), Edoho Awaih (2-for-3), and Digneo (2-for-3). Jessica Young drove in a pair of runs as did Erin Hengemuhle. Awaih and Digneo scored twice, with Digneo adding a triple, her fifth of the season.
Maddy Boulden took the loss for Rider to fall to 5-7 on the season. At the plate, Brandy Weed, Kiera Fox, and Erin McGlynn notched the hits for the Broncs.
In game two, Lehigh batted around in the second and third innings, as Digneo tied the hits record. Her triple to right centerfield in the fourth inning cemented her name in the Lehigh and Patriot League record books. Eight other Lehigh players notched hits, while Digneo knocked in four runs. Mary Wieder, Xochitl Mota, and Erin Hengemuhle scored twice, while Jenny Bender went the distance on the mound to improve to 10-4.
Courtney Weed posted two of Rider’s four hits, while Maddy Boulden and Erin McGlynn scored twice.
"We played well," said head coach Fran Troyan. "We haven’t played too many games this year where we have fired on all cylinders. Our hitting and pitching finally clicked at the same time."
Lehigh returns to action Saturday, at 1:00 p.m., to face Holy Cross. The home contest is the final scheduled series of games for Lehigh before the Patriot League Tournament. Lehigh can clinch the regular season title with two wins vs. the Crusaders.
