Mountain Hawks take two from Leopards

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh took a pair of games from Lafayette on Sunday to complete a four game series sweep of the Leopards. Lehigh won game one 11-3 and game two 6-0. With the wins the Mountain Hawks move to 23-6 overall, 11-1 in the Patriot League, while Lafayette falls to 4-19 overall, 1-9 in the league. Danielle Resovich went 4.1 innings to improve to 4-0 on the season. Resovich allowed three runs on eight hits, while striking out one Leopard. Three Lafayette players went 2-for-3 at the plate, including Gianna Lopreato, Tara Martinho, and Erin Allison. Martinho drove in two of the three Lafayette runs. Scoring (Game 1)
The Mountain Hawks scored four runs in the second inning, three in the third, three in the fourth, and one in the fifth. The Lehigh barrage started in the second inning as Erin Hengemuhle tripled to drive in three runs. Hengemuhle finished the game 1-for-1 with two runs scored and three RBI. Edoho Awaih and Jenny Bender each picked up two hits, with Awaih driving in two runs. Kelly Kliewer knocked in two runs as well, going 1-for-2. Also picking up hits for the Mountain Hawks was Shana Treon, Jessica Young, Stephanie Digneo, Ali Linsk, and Elizabeth Gripp.

WP: Resovich (4-0) LP: Longo (0-2) 2B: Awaih, Bender (LU) 3B: Hengemuhle (LU) LOB: Lehigh (3), Lafayette (8) Emily Ling toed the rubber in game two for the Mountain Hawks and pitched a gem for her 11th win of the season. Ling struck out 13 batters, while allowing just 2 hits. The Mountain Hawks got on the board for the first time in the fourth inning. Mary Wieder doubled to drive in a run, while Stephanie Digneo added an RBI single. Lehigh’s next two runs would come in the home half of the sixth inning as Shana Treon singled, driving in Ali Linsk and Jessica Young. The Mountain Hawks outscored Lafayette 37-6 in the four game series. Lehigh has also won six straight contests and 15 of its last 16 outings. "We came out today knowing we had a lot of work in front of us," said head coach Fran Troyan. "We did what we had to do to pick up the victories and stay on pace to stay in front of the rest of the league." Lehigh returns to action on Tuesday in non-league competition vs. La Salle.
