Lehigh downs Hartford, Digneo named All-Tournament

Blacksburg, VA – Lehigh (9-5) defeated Hartford by a final of 7-1 on Sunday in the team’s final game at the Virginia Tech Hokie Round Robin Classic. Senior shortstop Steph Digneo was named as the Mountain Hawks’ representative to the All-Tournament team. Digneo drove in sophomore Shana Treon and freshman Xochitl Mota with an RBI single with nobody out in the bottom of the first as the Mountain Hawks took an early 2-0 lead in the game. Lehigh added another run in the third, before tacking on three more in the fifth to put the game away. Digneo led off the inning with the second of her three singles on the afternoon and was lifted for a pinch runner, sophomore Edoho Awaih. Senior Jenny Bender reached on a fielder’s choice, and an error allowed Awaih to safely reach second. After a sacrifice by sophomore Jessica Young, freshman Mary Weider brought them both home with a two-run double. Weider later scored on a single by sophomore Britt Swanson. The Mountain Hawks’ seven runs were more than sophomore pitcher Emily Ling needed. Ling plowed through the Hawks lineup, striking out nine and scattering six hits. Lehigh used 15 hits to put seven runs on the board against Jaime Graves and Caitlin Eichler. Digneo led the Mountain Hawks, going 3-for-4 with three RBI’s. Also turning in multi-hit games were Treon, Mota, Young, Weider, and Swanson. Weider went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and Mota scored a pair of runs in a 2-for-4 effort. Digneo was named to the All-Tournament team, after going 10-for-18 (.556) during the five game tournament, adding a home run, eight RBI and five runs scored. The Mountain Hawks return to action on Wednesday, when Delaware visits Kaufmann Field for Lehigh’s home opener. Scoring
