Bender rips 200th career hit, Lehigh splits.

Kissimmee, FL – Day two of the Rebel Games continued as Lehigh split a pair of games, defeating Indiana-Ft. Wayne 6-0 and falling to Providence 4-3. The Mastodon loss dropped them to 2-5, while the Friar win improved their record to 2-3. Lehigh and IPFW were scoreless through the first inning, however, in the second the Mountain Hawks took the lead on a Jessica Young triple, her first of the season. Young would go on to go 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI. On the play Shana Treon and Xochitl Mota scored, giving the Mountain Hawks a 2-0 lead. Lehigh would then score a run in the third, one in the fifth and two in the sixth, while Emily Ling tossed a one-hitter, striking out 12 IPFW batters. Statistically for the Mountain Hawks, Treon and Stephanie Digneo each went 2-for-4, while Jenny Bender, Kelly Kliewer, and Edoho Awaih each managed one hit. Stephanie Roth picked up the lone hit for IPFW, a pinch-hit single in the bottom of the seventh inning. In game two, Jenny Bender picked up her 200th career hit in Lehigh's contest against the Providence Friars. The Mountain Hawks moved to 2-1 on the season after falling to the Friars 4-3. The Mountain Hawks trailed 2-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning when Stephanie Digneo laced a single to right field scoring Kate Arico and Shana Treon. With the scored tied 2-2, Jenny Bender singled, driving home Jessica Young. In the top of the sixth inning, trailing 3-2, Providence’s Michelle Willette singled home Cori Van Dusen tying the score at 3-3. The single, combined with a pair of walks was enough to chase Danielle Resovich, Lehigh’s starting pitching. Resovich managed 5 2/3 strong innings before being pulled in favor of Jenny Bender. Bender ended the Friar comeback and the inning with just two pitches. In the top of the seventh inning Providence took the lead once more as Kalena Petersen knocked in Chrissy Iannolo with a long double to the center field fence. Bender again pitched out of trouble, this time though, the Friars were leading 4-3. The Mountain Hawks were unable to score the tying run in the bottom of the seventh as the squad fell for the first time this season. Statistically, Lehigh’s Stephanie Digneo went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Bender managed a 1-of-3 performance, knocking in Lehigh only other run. For Providence, Michelle Willette and Elena Romero each picked up two hits, while four Friars managed an RBI each. Lehigh returns to action Wednesday vs. Austin Peay and Maine. Game time for Austin Peay is 12:30, while the Maine game is scheduled to begin at 4:10. Game 1
