Forks Township, PA – Lehigh scored 12 runs in 12 innings and allowed just three hits in a double header sweep of archrival Lafayette (5-24, 3-13 PL) on Saturday afternoon. Lehigh (27-12, 11-3 PL) won the first game 2-0 behind the near perfect pitching of senior Jenny Bender and won the second game 10-0 in five innings behind offensive firepower from senior Stephanie Howell and untouchable pitching from freshman Emily Ling. Game one was all Bender. The junior lefty cruised through seven innings to pick up her seventh win of the season and lower her ERA to 1.24. The complete game shutout was her third of the season. She struck out six and walked only one in the game. Lehigh has struggled to score runs as of late when Bender is on the mound. The Mountain Hawks have scored just six runs in her last four starts but are averaging 5.9 runs scored per game in league play. Offensively, Chris Duncan and Carrie Yeakel knocked in a run apiece for Lehigh and Stephanie Digneo was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Game two was no contest. Lehigh dominated offensively and defensively scoring four runs in the first inning and six more in the top of the fifth inning. The Mountain Hawks scored ten runs on nine hits and capitalized on three Leopard errors. Howell was an offensive machine going 2-for-3 with six runs batted in, four of which came on a grand slam in the top of the fifth inning. Digneo went 1-for-3 with three RBIs raising her league batting average to .460. Shana Treon, Liz Gripp, and Davon Ortega each added a pair of hits to the effort. Freshman Emily Ling continued to pitch well for Lehigh throwing a one hit shutout. She struck out five and walked two picking up her team high tenth win of the season, improving to 5-0 in league play. Lehigh will complete their series with Lafayette on Sunday. Game 1
