Lehigh splits with Quakers

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh split a non-league doubleheader with Pennsylvania (12-27) on Tuesday afternoon at Kaufman Field losing the first game 3-1 but battled back to win game two 15-5 in five innings. The Mountain Hawks enforced the mercy rule in game two as they led by more than eight runs when the game reached the fifth inning. Jenny Bender continued to get virtually no run support as she picked up the loss in game one. The junior lefty went the distance scattering five hits allowing just one earned run in the loss. Lehigh (23-12) has scored 45 runs over the past six games, but only three in the two times Bender has been on the mound. Lehigh recorded five hits and made two costly errors in the loss. Shannon Long was 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and an RBI in the loss. The bats woke up in game two as Lehigh pounded out 15 hits to pummel the Quakers ending the game in five innings. Junior Stephanie Digneo was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple, an RBI, and three runs scored. Bender went 2-for-3 with a pair of triples and four RBIs and Carrie Yeakel was a perfect 2-for-2 with a pair of runs batted in. Chris Duncan turned in a 2-for-3 performance with an RBI and a run scored as all but two batters recorded at least one hit for Lehigh. Stephanie Howell hit her first homerun of the season. The Mountain Hawks return to action on Wednesday when they play host to Marist at Kaufman Field. The double dip is set to begin at 3:00. Game 1
