Sweeney, Marvel garner All-Region honors

The two selections mark the sixth straight year that Lehigh had an All-Region selection in softball and the third straight year the Mountain Hawks had All-Region performers.
The first player to win Patriot League Player and Pitcher of the Year honors, Sweeney enters the NCAA regionals as the league’s leader in all three offensive and pitching triple-crown categories. At the plate Sweeney is batting a robust .416 with 13 home runs and 46 runs batted in. She was a second team All-League selection as an outfielder in addition to a first team selection as a pitcher. Last weekend, Sweeney threw all 25 innings for Lehigh in the Patriot League tournament, posting a 3-1 record, while going 5-for-9 at the plate and earning tournament MVP honors for the second time in three years.
Marvel earned a spot on the second team after receiving first team accolades in each of the last two years. Just the seventh four-time All-League selection in Patriot League history, Marvel enters the NCAA tournament with a .335 batting average. The Manasquan, N.J. native ranks second behind Sweeney with 57 hits, while also scoring 36 runs in her senior season. Marvel currently ranks among the top five in school annals in batting average, hits, triples and bases on balls.
The Mountain Hawks (38-16-1) will play their second game at the NCAA Amherst Regional on Saturday when they face the loser of the Princeton-UMass game at 2:30 p.m.
