Record-setting week earns Sweeney two awards

In the circle, Sweeney won both her starts and allowed just three runs in 15 and two-thirds innings of work. She picked up her 600th career strikeout in Lehigh’s 9-2 win at Holy Cross on Saturday, and surpassed the career and single-season strikeout marks while fanning eleven Crusaders in a four-hit shutout in the Mountain Hawks’ 12-0 win over the Crusaders on Sunday. The shutout was Sweeney’s seventh of the season and 21st of her career as she improved to 19-3 on the year. Her 64 career wins put her one behind former Lehigh standout Emily Ling ’05 for the school and Patriot League record. Sweeney has a record 234 strikeouts this season and 617 for her career.
Sweeney also continues to thrive at the plate, where she went 7-for-16 in six games last week to raise her average to .406. Six of her seven hits went for extra bases, as Sweeney ripped a double and five home-runs en route to a 1.438 slugging percentage last week. In Lehigh’s first game against Rider on Wednesday, Sweeney capped off a ten-run first inning with a grand slam, her Lehigh single-season record-tying seventh home run of the year. The
