Former hoops standout Hess '00 passes away

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Former Lehigh University men’s basketball standout Jared Hess ’00 passed away on Friday. Hess had been courageously battling leukemia for several months, but his health was rapidly declining during recent weeks. Hess is survived by his wife Anne, and their two children, Caleb and Noah.

During his playing days at Lehigh, Hess was a two time All-Patriot League selection (1999, 2000) as well as a member of the Patriot League All-Rookie Team in 1997. A three-time captain, Hess was honored as Team MVP in both 1999 and 2000, while in 1997 he earned the men’s basketball program’s Scholar Athlete of the Year accolade. Hess finished his career with 1,139 points, which ranks 17th in school history and his career-high of 29 came on January 9, 1999 versus Manhattan.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Hess graduated from Winton Woods High School and then went onto earn his bachelors degree in Information Systems from Lehigh in 2000. Following graduation Hess worked as a programmer with Computer Aid, Inc., an Information Technology services company.
