BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Rising senior Zahir Carrington was recently named to the Philadelphia Daily News All-Decade High School Basketball Team. Carrington was an honorable mention selection in the Public League for Julia R. Masterman and Laboratory and Demonstration School, which he graduated from in 2006. Labeeb Muhammad, a 2002 graduate of Masterman, joined Carrington on the list.
Carrington earned Second-Team All-Patriot League honors and Second-Team All-District accolades this past season after leading the Mountain Hawks in scoring at 14.0 points per game, and pacing the entire Patriot League in rebounding with a total of 248, the most by any Lehigh player since the 1991-92 season. Carrington registered ten double-doubles this season and was named the Patriot League Player of the Week on two occasions. A tri-captain, Carrington pulled down double digit rebounds in 13 games, including a career-high of 15 versus Longwood, and he scored 10 or more points 24 times, including a season-high of 21 tallies versus St. Peter’s, Columbia and Navy.
Carrington registered double figure marks in either points or rebounds in each of Lehigh’s final 19 games. He failed to reach the double figure plateau in either points or rebounds in just two games for the entire season. He led the Mountain Hawks in scoring 12 times, and in rebounding 18 times, while ranking in the top-15 in the Patriot League in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, and blocked shots. Carrington will enter his final season in the Brown and White with 930 career points and 470 rebounds.
