BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After picking up its first win of the season on Wednesday, Lehigh returns home to face the Georgetown Hoyas. The Mountain Hawks enjoyed one of their most dominant performances in recent years in Wednesday’s 3-1 win at Fairfield; a game in which Lehigh out shot the Stags 18-4 and held a 10-1 advantage in penalty corners.
Junior Kalynn Davies scored her first goal of the season to get Lehigh on the board against Fairfield. Classmate Kara Zweizig added her team-leading second goal of the season in the second half, and then freshman Taryn Hartzell found the back of the cage for her first collegiate tally, less than a minute after Fairfield had pulled within a goal at 2-1. The Mountain Hawks have enjoyed good offensive balance, with six different players already owning a goal through four games. Sophomore Kelly Fox has two assists to lead the Brown and White, while freshman goalkeeper Jessica Miller is among the Patriot League leaders with 29 saves.
Georgetown comes to town with a 1-3 record under interim head coach Tiffany Marsh. The Hoyas were in action last weekend at Maryland, where they defeated St. Francis (Pa.) 4-1, and lost to VCU 3-1. Georgetown has also lost to James Madison and Appalachian State. Katie Lachman has paced the Hoya attack with three goals and seven points, while freshman Tiffany Kaszuba has played most of the minutes in the goal cage.
Lehigh and Georgetown have played every year since 2003, with the Mountain Hawks holding a 3-1 series advantage. Lehigh has outscored the Hoyas 14-6 in the four games, and has scored at least four goals in all three wins. Last season, the Mountain Hawks won 5-1 in Washington. Five different players scored for Lehigh, with Moira Garrity ‘07 scoring the game-winner on a penalty stroke.
Saturday’s game gets underway at noon from the Ulrich Sports Complex.
