In Sunday’s opening game, the Mountain Hawks put runs on the scoreboard in bunches to get Troyan his 400th win. Lehigh, the designated visiting team, scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Junior Lisa Sweeney continued a stellar weekend at the plate and in the pitcher’s circle with a two run home run to right field, and two batters later classmate Alisha Gonzales followed with a solo shot to left, her second round-tripper in as many days.
Lehigh extended its lead with a three-run third inning. Freshman Carly Potock drove in two runs with two out double and came around to score when sophomore Brooke Lewis reached on an error.
The Mountain Hawks blew the game open in the sixth inning, plating six runs on just three hits as Hornets’ starter Andrea Waters lost command of the strike zone. Marvel capped off the six run assault with a two run single, after Lehigh had scored four previous runs on a wild pitch, a bases loaded walk, a fielder’s choice and a single.
Potock and Sweeney combined for four of Lehigh’s eight hits and five of the ten RBI versus
Gaumer went the first four innings in the circle allowing one run on five hits for her first collegiate win. Sophomore Danielle Clark loaded the bases with three walks, but struck out the side in the fifth for the game’s final three outs.

Sophomore Lauren Eichblatt knocked in Lehigh’s first run with a second inning RBI single, and the Mountain Hawks knotted the game at two in the next frame when freshman Sam Miller reached on an error allowing Ali Torborg to score.
Marvel broke the tie with two outs in the sixth; as her third hit of the ballgame drove home senior Megan Conrad with the go-ahead run. The Spartans loaded the bases in the seventh, but Sweeney, who relieved sophomore Tiffany Curtis in the fourth inning, struck out Kaitlin Merkt to end the game.
Curtis allowed two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts in three innings of work. Sweeney followed with four shutout innings allowing just two hits while striking out eight, including the 400th strikeout of her career, to pick up her second win of the weekend.
