Stifling defense leads the way for Lehigh win

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Mountain Hawks won their sixth game in a row and ninth in ten games, thanks to a great second half effort, outscoring Colgate 29-16, to win the game 67-37 in Hamilton, N.Y. Lehigh forced 32 turnovers and held the Raiders to 32.6 percent shooting, including 28 percent in the second half. Kaela Pearce and Alex Ross each had a game high 14 points, while Melissa Rich fell one rebound shy of double-double with 10 points and nine boards. With the win Lehigh improves to 12-7 (4-0), while Colgate falls to 1-18 (0-4).

It was a cold start for both teams, as Colgate struck first on a three-pointer by Evan Librizzi, but not until four minutes into the game. Lehigh picked up the pace, responding back with a couple of three-pointers by Ross, to take a 13-8 lead with 10:56 remaining. The Mountain Hawks outscored the Raiders 25-13 over the final ten minutes of the half, to take a 38-21 lead at the intermission.
Erica Prosser had nine points to pace the Brown and White, while Rich added eight points and five rebounds. Prosser also had four steals for Lehigh, who forced 18 turnovers in the half. The Mountain Hawks shot 46.9 percent from the field, including 36.4 percent from long range, while holding Colgate to 38.1 percent shooting.
A total of four Lehigh players ended the game in double figures, with Prosser adding 11 points and tied Pearce for the team lead with five steals. The Mountain Hawks forced a season high 22 steals, converting those into 27 points off turnovers.
Shevorne Martin led the Raiders with 12 points and Krista Moser added eight rebounds.
