Mountain Hawks compete at Penn State Nationals

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Lehigh cross country teams ran in the Penn Sate Nationals Friday morning, with the men’s team finishing 12th and the women’s team finishing 16th.  Jon Wetzel garnered the top spot for the Lehigh men, finishing 55th overall and crossing the finish line in 27:23, while Shannon Alejandro took first place for the Lehigh women, finishing 45th overall and crossing the finish line in 22:08.

 

La Salle took the overall title on the men’s side, finishing with 62 points and placing three runners in the top 15.  Andre Silva of Kentucky won the individual title finishing the 5.2 mile race in 26:16.  West Virginia placed first overall for the women, with 86 points, and had three runners in the top ten.  Marie-Louise Asselin of West Virginia won the individual title, running the 6k race in 20:46.

 

The Lehigh men finished with a total of 327 points and had five runners in the top 75.  All seven of the runners finished within one minute of each other.  Dan DeWitt placed second for Lehigh (27:29), followed by Ben Lampi (27:31), Carl Leuing (27:36), Kenny Burgess (27:38), Steve Sample (28:02) and Dan McClimon (28:08).

 

The Mountain Hawks women’s team scored 511 points and had two runners in the top 100.  Freshman Alexis Weiner had another strong finish for Lehigh, taking second place on the team, finishing the race in 23:06.  Other Lehigh finishers were Dana Stellar (23:47), Katie McClernand (23:51), Jennifer Curran (24:17), Liz Robinson (24:21) and Nicole Page (25:21).

 

Lehigh will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to Easton for the Lafayette Invitational starting at 10 a.m.
