Cross Country begins highly anticipated season tomorrow at home

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Both the Lehigh men's and women's cross country teams will begin the highly anticipated season tomorrow evening outside on the Goodman Campus Cross Country course, hosting the Lehigh Invitational. The women's race will be the first race at 5:30 p.m. and the men's race will follow at 6:15 p.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Men's cross country team placed fifth at the Patriot League Championships road course edition. Brad DeMassa was the first Lehigh finisher at 15th, Connor Melko finished two spots behind in 17th, while graduate Michael Mitchell was the third Lehigh runner at 23rd and Tyler French finished 24th overall and was the fourth Lehigh runner.
 
On the women's side, the Brown and White took sixth at the Patriot League Championships. The highlight of the day was Jamie Zamrin garnering Second Team All-League after she finished 12th overall. Madison Zaun was the second Lehigh runner and 25th overall, while Christina Yakaboski finished 27th overall for the Mountain Hawks.
 
MEET THE TEAMS
The following teams are scheduled to travel into Bethlehem and compete in the Lehigh Invitational: DeSales, Muhlenberg, Moravian, University of Penn, Princeton, Monmouth, Rutgers and West Virginia (women only).
 
PREVIOUS LEHIGH INVITATIONAL
Back in the fall of 2019, the Lehigh men's cross country team won the Lehigh Invitational after placing seven runners inside the top-10. Jeffrey Kirshenbaum won the race, Seth Slavin finished second Kip Yegon ended fourth, Sean Brown was fifth and Brad DeMassa placed six. Lehigh won with a low score of 18, while Rutgers finished second with 65 points.
 
On the women's side, the Brown and White also won the Lehigh Invitational with a low score of 57, just edging out La Salle who finished second with 58. Susie Poore was the top Lehigh finisher (eighth) and Andrea Miller was the second Mountain Hawk to cross the line (ninth). Nicole Abbondandelo was the third (14th) and Martina Sell was the fourth Lehigh runner (16th).
 
UP NEXT
Both teams will have next week off to rest up and prepare for the Lehigh-Lafayette dual meet in Easton on October 18.
