Lehigh equals best league start ever with win

Senior James Anderson came off of the bench for Lehigh and contributed four points and a career-best nine rebounds, while classmate Mike Fischman added eight points and five boards. As a team, the Brown and White shot just 35 percent on the night, but did hit on 50 percent of its three-point attempts. American hit on 42 percent from the field, and turned the ball over 15 times, as did Lehigh.
Anderson, who had an emphatic tip-dunk in the second half, spoke about it following the contest. “I saw the lane open up and I was able to get a few steps in before I jumped. My eyes lit up when I saw the opening and I just went up and got it.”
American came out strong on Saturday, jumping out to a 17-10 lead at the 8:44 mark on the strength of a three-pointer by Arvydas Eitutavicius, and stretched that lead to ten when Joneliunas sunk a free throw with 5:48 to go in the first half. The Mountain Hawks would storm back though, using a 14-2 run to go in front 29-27 with 2:05 left. A pair of free throws by Olivero with five seconds left in the stanza propelled the Brown and White to a 33-32 halftime lead.

After a lay up by Knight with 4:12 left, the Brown and White were again up nine, but back-to-back buckets from the Eagles cut that lead to just five with 1:54 to go. American would not get any closer however, as the Mountain Hawks paraded to the free throw line down the stretch and converted six straight shots from the charity stripe in the final 21 seconds.
